Classic Beef Stew Recipe
Ingredients:
To make a classic beef stew, you will need the following ingredients:
— 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
— 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
— Salt and pepper to taste
— 2 tablespoons olive oil
— 1 onion, chopped
— 2 cloves garlic, minced
— 4 cups beef broth
— 1 cup red wine
— 2 tablespoons tomato paste
— 1 teaspoon dried thyme
— 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
— 4 carrots, sliced
— 4 potatoes, peeled and diced
— 1 cup frozen peas
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, season the beef stew meat with salt and pepper. Add the flour and toss to coat the meat evenly.
2. In a large Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef stew meat in batches and brown on all sides. Remove the meat from the pot and set aside.
3. Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
4. Return the beef stew meat to the pot and add the beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, thyme, and rosemary. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 1 1/2 hours.
5. Add the carrots and potatoes to the pot and continue to cook for another 30 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
6. Stir in the frozen peas and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
7. Season the stew with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
